Do you think Church rituals and devotions have been emphasized too much in the past and maybe not enough now? Or what?
I believe that we need to make a distinction here: Rituals is mainly what the Church uses in the celebration of the sacraments. I do not think that is good not to emphasize them. They need to be observed faithfully, not only for the validity of the sacraments but also for their fruitful celebration and reception.
The devotions on the other hand, need to be judged individually. The devotions that have the approval of the Church are great means to promote and develop one’s spiritual life. However, it does not mean that everyone is call to embrace all possible devotion. It should be carefully discerned by the individual and in some case with the help of spiritual director. Nevertheless, there are some devotions that have been highly recommended by all the Popes and saints, such is the Holy Rosary. I will have no doubt that all can benefit from it.
